Common questions
The things people ask before they book
How long does a CPR certification last?
Two years. American Heart Association eCards are valid for two years from the date you pass, and you renew by taking the course again before that date.
How long is the class?
Four hours. The length is set by the American Heart Association, not by us, and it is the same for BLS and Heartsaver.
How much does a class cost?
AHA BLS Provider is $65 per person for the four-hour class. Heartsaver is priced on request — tell us the headcount and we will quote it. The AHA student manual is separate and is bought direct from the American Heart Association, not from us.
Do I need to buy anything before class?
Yes. The American Heart Association requires every student to own the BLS Provider Manual before the class starts. The eBook is $17.30 and the printed manual is $20.20, both direct from the AHA. The Schedule a class page links both products. The printed one has to ship, so order early.
BLS or Heartsaver — which one do I need?
If your employer asked for BLS by name, or you work in a clinical role, take BLS Provider. If you are not clinical — an office, a school, a gym, a crew — Heartsaver teaches the same life-saving skills without the clinical vocabulary. If you are not sure, tell us what you were asked for and we will tell you which one matches.
What do I have to do to earn the certification?
Two things, and both have to be passed. A skills test, watched, on the manikin — and a written test. Pass both and your eCard is issued.
What happens if I cannot do the compressions?
Then you do not get a card. Cards are issued against a certified instructor's credential, so it is not something that can be waved through — the person on the floor one day will not care what the certificate says. If you have an injury or a condition that might get in the way, tell us before you book and we will talk it through.
Can you come to our workplace?
Yes, and it is usually the easier option for a team. We bring the manikins and the AED trainers to your office, clinic or site and certify everyone in one visit. One instructor covers up to 18 people in a session.
How do I renew before mine expires?
Renewal is the same BLS Provider course. Book it before the expiry date printed on your current card — once it lapses you are simply uncertified until you take the class again.
Do you teach ACLS or PALS?
No. We teach BLS and Heartsaver. ACLS and PALS require a clinical credential to instruct, so we do not offer them and would rather say so than waste your time.
Still not sure which one?
Tell us what your employer asked for and we will tell you which course matches it. Call 210-449-3888 or send the request and we will sort it out before you pay for anything.
